ABOUT US

In the early 1900s, a new group of university-educated Vakils entered the Quilon Courts, facing skepticism from senior practitioners. In 1906, six junior lawyers formed the "Quilon Vakil’s Association" by jointly subscribing to legal journals, despite financial hardships. With no formal structure, they operated from a modest, shared room in the court, lacking furniture or a proper library.

As the need for unity grew, a formal meeting in August 1908 at Mr. C. Sankara Menon’s residence led to the founding of the Quilon Bar Association with 15 members, including future judges and legal luminaries. Membership was open to all eligible Vakils, and Mr. Sankara Menon served as the first Secretary for ten years. A President role was introduced only in 1937 when the Association was incorporated under the Companies Act.

The Association grew rapidly, expanding its library and influence. It celebrated major milestones in 1933 (Silver Jubilee), 1958 (Golden Jubilee), and 1983 (Platinum Jubilee). Today, it has over 1,100 members, supported by strict rules ensuring financial discipline.
